# Update

If you see the message `New version available` when starting tuna, it's time to update. Updating allows you to receive bug fixes and new features in a timely manner. The update procedure is no more complicated than installation:

**Windows**

Run the command in PowerShell or [update manually](https://tuna.am/en/docs/guides/install/install-cli.md?os=windows):

```bash
winget upgrade --id yuccastream.tuna ; powershell
```

**macOS**

Run the commands in the terminal or [update manually](https://tuna.am/en/docs/guides/install/install-cli.md?os=macos):

```bash
brew update
brew upgrade yuccastream/tap/tuna
```

**Linux**

### Updating via the package manager

**Ubuntu/Debian**

For Debian and derivative distributions (Ubuntu, Mint and others), run the following commands in the terminal:

```shell
sudo apt update
sudo apt install tuna-cli
```

**SUSE/OpenSUSE**

For SUSE and OpenSUSE, run the following commands in the terminal:

If tuna was installed before version 0.35.0, switch the repository once:

```shell
sudo zypper removerepo tuna
sudo zypper addrepo --repo https://code.tuna.am/api/packages/tuna/rpm/stable.repo
```

Update the package:

```shell
sudo zypper refresh
sudo zypper install -y tuna-cli
```

**RHEL/Fedora**

For RHEL and derivative distributions (CentOS, Rocky, AlmaLinux and others), as well as Fedora, run the following commands in the terminal:

If tuna was installed before version 0.35.0, switch the repository once:

```shell
sudo curl -fsSL https://code.tuna.am/api/packages/tuna/rpm/stable.repo -o /etc/yum.repos.d/tuna-forgejo.repo
sudo rm -f /etc/yum.repos.d/tuna-rpm.repo /etc/yum.repos.d/tuna.repo
```

Update the package:

```shell
sudo dnf install -y --refresh tuna-cli
```

**ALT Linux**

For ALT Linux, run the command in the terminal:

```shell
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install tuna-cli
```

**Arch Linux**

For Arch Linux, update the `tuna.am-bin` package from AUR:

```shell
yay -S tuna.am-bin
```

Without yay, use the script below: it installs the package with yay or pacman.

### Updating with the script

The script works on any distribution: where a tuna package is available it updates the package, elsewhere (Alpine, NixOS and others) it replaces the binary. Run the command in the terminal or [update manually](https://tuna.am/en/docs/guides/install/install-cli.md?os=linux):

**curl**

```shell
sh -c "$(curl -sSLf https://releases.tuna.am/tuna/get.sh)"
```

**wget**

```shell
sh -c "$(wget -qO- https://releases.tuna.am/tuna/get.sh)"
```

**FreeBSD**

Run the command in the terminal or [update manually](https://tuna.am/en/docs/guides/install/install-cli.md?os=freebsd):

**curl**

```shell
sh -c "$(curl -sSLf https://releases.tuna.am/tuna/get.sh)"
```

**wget**

```shell
sh -c "$(wget -qO- https://releases.tuna.am/tuna/get.sh)"
```

**Docker**

Run the command:

```bash
docker pull yuccastream/tuna:latest
```

To make sure the update was successful, run `tuna version`.

## Tuna update policy

We strive to ensure that users always have access to the latest version of tuna. Therefore, we limit the use of outdated versions for users without a subscription. When a new version of the client is released, the previous one will continue to work for approximately 6 months. The exact end-of-support date is reflected in the table below. Users with a subscription can continue using any version without restrictions.
